Tom Steyer, a billionaire former hedge fund manager who vowed to gather $100 million to fight off people who question climate change this election cycle, has given Harry Reid’s Leadership PAC a $5 million donation, according to reports. This is the largest donation the PAC has received to date.
Steyer made the generous donation to Harry Reid’s Senate Majority PAC, whose main goal is to retain Senate control for Democrats this November, through his NextGen Climate Action PAC. This amount is twice as large as a donation made by Michael Bloomberg earlier this year. The Senate Majority PAC reported receipts of $5.7 million from April 17 to April 30 — almost all of which came from the liberal mega-donor. Steyer vowed to provide help to candidates who oppose the Keystone XL pipeline.
On May 28, Steyer will host Vice President Joe Biden at his San Francisco home for a Democratic National Committee (DNC) fundraiser.
His work has been featured on numerous outlets including the Drudge Report, Fox News, CBS News, ABC News, Yahoo News, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and The Huffington Post-- among many others.
